Gran Centenario Tequila Reposado

“Gran Centenario Reposado, NOM 1122. In my opinion this is a truly fine tequila with a light amber color & nice, long, symmetrical legs extending to the top of the glass. The first nose is that of light agave followed by slight oak & caramel. The sweet, peppery initial taste is openly inviting with a nice aged quality. Vanilla & more peppery spice forms a deep, consistent body. This entire experience finishes with an enveloping veil of agave nectar, tingling sensation, & tapers off beautifully. A slight numbing warms the entire palate & adds to the overall smoothness. This is my favorite reposado to date. It mixes superbly in a Margarita or with grapefruit soda. Very enjoyable strait, on the rocks, etc. Top shelf. A+”
1921 Tequila Reserva Especial

“I was pretty impressed with this. This is one of the more complex tequila’s I know of, and I think the better nose and palate someone has the more they would appreciate and enjoy this. I don’t claim to be an expert by any means, but I definitely could identify lots of different notes all throughout.
The nose was very fruity, strong hints of lemon and other citrus fruits, along with a very nice presence of smoke, oak, and almost a pepper/spiciness. Entry was sweet, mostly with fruit and agave flavors, again the citrus notes being pretty evident. In the body all of the elements in the aroma come to life and you really can taste each of those flavors, along with a smokey oak flavor, but not overly stated, and a hint of buttery caramel. The finish was nice as some other flavors and some of the sweeter agave and other notes came back. I kind of liked how I experienced a sweet flavor/smell and entry, then a rich full-bodied smokey buttery flavor, and then the sweetness again at the end. Very nice.
Very smooth for a rep, but I’m an anejo lover so that was the one piece that might have been a touch better for me. But excellent for a rep.
This reminded me of El Tesoro’s anejo quite a bit. It was almost like a more flavor-packed version of it actually. I am a big fan of ET, so that was a great thing for me. For the $45-ish I paid for the bottle it was well worth it and I highly recommend giving it a try if you have the chance.”
Chinaco Tequila Anejo

“I purchased a bottle of this from Wineandliquordepot.com. Let me just say that I was blown away at the quality, not to mention the price relative to high quality tequilas in the industry. This tequila had so much character. As I sipped it there was nothing that I didn’t like about it. It was so good that I tasted it side-by-side to Don Julio 1942, and Don Julio (my two favorite anejos). It had strong aromas of vanilla and fruit. It was very sweet, syrupy with no detectable bitterness. The Don Julio anejos are slightly sweeter, and fruitier (citrus) with NO bitterness. This tequila has a much more earthy taste which I appreciated. There were also hints of smoke. This is my new go-to tequila. I am blown away at the quality and have a will have a hard time enjoying the more affordable tequilas that I have been searching for in these economic times. Top-notch all the way, very high in character.”
Muchote Tequila Reposado

“Tasted on 9/24/2010 out of a snifter, neat
NOM 1414
Let me say this: the bottle will try to scare you away, but if you’re brave you will be rewarded! For $20-25, you can’t expect a tequila this good to be cased in crystal.
Aroma: Thick caramel, vanilla, and butterscotch. Inviting, to say the least.
Initial Taste: Clean and warm with a delicious oak that brings hints of sweet bourbon. Coats the mouth and crisps on the tip of the tongue.
Body: Rich in smokey agave, pepper, and sweet oak.
Finish: Medium-to-long duration with little to no heat or bitterness. Presence of oils and oak remain the longest, with agave fading shortly before.
For a lover of both tequila and whiskey, this reposado is outstanding. Forget it’s price: this is a reposado that can stand alone in any price category. Truly a great sipper and a wonderful mixer in fine cocktails that highlight tequila (the tequila old fashioned being one of my favorites with this particular reposado).
It is currently listed as one of my favorite reposados, along with Chinaco, 1921, Gran Centenario, and Corralejo.”
